Each fall, students from Linn and Benton Counties have the incredible opportunity to participate in Salmon Watch, a program that offers free field trips to select locations where Chinook salmon can be observed spawning in the wild.
This engaging program immerses elementary and middle school students in hands-on learning stations covering crucial topics such as:
- Macroinvertebrates: Discovering the tiny aquatic life that indicates water health.
- Riparian Zones: Understanding the vital role of riverside vegetation.
- Water Quality: Learning about the chemical and physical properties that sustain aquatic life.
- Salmon Life Cycles: Exploring the incredible journey of salmon from egg to adult.
The Calapooia Watershed Council (CWC) is proud to work in collaboration with a wide array of partners, including the Benton Soil & Water Conservation District, South Santiam Watershed Council, Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, Siuslaw National Forest, and others.
Together, we deliver Salmon Watch to more than 1,500 students across Linn and Benton Counties every year. This impactful program would not be possible without the significant dedication and support from our invaluable community volunteers
